The city’s Public Assistance and Human Asset Advancement Department recently announced a significant initiative to outsource 46 publicly funded services to third-party providers. This move aims to enhance service delivery and allow governmental bodies to concentrate on broader societal issues.

Bekele Temesgen, head of the department’s service delivery and outsourcing sector, explained that this strategy will alleviate the burden on government staff and ensure that services are delivered more efficiently. The department is currently finalizing regulations, guidelines, and tender documents for the service transfer. Once approved by the Cabinet, the outsourcing initiative will commence.

Bekele highlighted several benefits of outsourcing, including job creation, improved cost-effectiveness, and enhanced accessibility of services. However, the shift will lead to a reduction in government workforce, particularly in security and cleaning roles. Affected employees will be prioritized for roles within the outsourced services and will receive skill training and financial support to help with the transition.

Additionally, the department plans to provide training to governmental institutions on the outsourcing process and strategies for transferring services to third-party providers.
